Hi - thanks for the link and comments.

The reason Stefan "does not like me at all" is not so much that I am an "ignorant, fact twisted, apologizing, mac zealot," but merely that I have reported unflatering things about Nokia. He reports that I "pull numbers out of thin air and don’t cite sources," without suggesting when this happened. Pot/kettle/black indeed.

The criticism of Nokia's platform that I published was actually written by a Symbian developer; the history I wrote of Symbian's development was actually not very critical of Nokia at all. Stefan seems to have gotten upset about an imagined slight against his employer/umbilical cord.

That said, I appreciate factual criticism, and have no business motive for supporting products that aren't the best. I'm a contractor; I make more money fixing PCs than I do Macs. I choose to work mainly with Macs because I've decided that I would rather make things work better than fix things that don't work.

I don't begrudge people who like different things. My criticism of Paul Thurrott was based on his own comments and contradictions and inaccuracies, which were in the article. When I'm critical of products and analysts, I saw why I think they're wrong, rather than just calling them names.

I am corrected for spelling words wrong, but I haven't seen anyone point out where I've materially misstated facts in a deceptive way, taken things out of context, or made accusations or claims that were unsupported. If Stefan has some special knowledge of fact twisting, he should share it.

I wonder if Stefan was around when Microsoft was at the top of its trademark vapourware game. I'm pretty sure if Stefan was around then, he wouldn't like Bill Gates, either. At all.

Yet, amazingly, no one complained. Even after Microsoft launched vapourware after vapourware after vapourware and buried scores of legitimate competition with superior products (compared to the competition against the iPod and iPhone, for instance - half of them are just real imitation turds). Not even now. Which probably explains why everyone hates Daniel so much, because he reminds people of what it used to be like.

Everyone (everyone except for Lotus, Novell, Borland, Netscape...) seemed perfectly happy to go along with the vapour train back then. I wonder what''s changed since then. Oh, that's right: these days, it's Microsoft at the wrong end of the battering ram. Say, how d'ya like that crow pie, Bill? It's packed with multi-vitamins and irony.

Since I consider myself a "fair and balanced" kind of guy, if you know of any anti-Apple site that writes at least half as well as Daniel Eran, I'd love to hear about it so I can add it to my RSS reader.

I think it's foolish to compare what's out there to the iPhone until the iPhone actually comes out. Vaporware is always better than what's out there, at least on paper. :)

My bottom line, though, is I use the tool that works best given financial constraints. This is why I use Windows, Linux, *and* Mac in my day-to-day work.

I'm neutral in this whole debate, but I have to admit one thing: The man behind Roughly Drafted is an ignorant, fact twisted, apologizing, mac zealot. Nothing more, nothing less.

He pulls numbers out of thin air, doesn't cite sources, and always comes to the conclusion that the Mac or whatever Apple product he is referencing, comes out on top.

I've never seen bias before, but his site takes it up a few notches. I hope he is enjoying the adsense revenue he is building up due to the mac readers who go to his site to feel better about themselves when other products comes out.

I'm sure you read his article where he slams every single phone OS out there and heralds the iPhone a champion. Never mind that the iPhone isn't out yet, it is simply the best and there is no other solution out there.

I do not like him. At all.
