I suspect WalMart is paying for a (temporary) exclusive here. Wouldn't be the first time.

It's nice, but I think it's annoying that their manager is making this assumption that if Walmarts released their sales figures they'd be #1 instead of Britney next week. This is NOT necessarily true. It just means that if Walmart releases the number, they MIGHT be #1. They also MIGHT not. If they don't release it, people will be claiming they would be #1 and that's pretty unfair.

But if you ask me, something seems a tad unusual about this request. It's not normally done, and seems a bit unprofessional of the Eagles to do this. I'm sure many other groups that have been #1, like Carrie Underwood and so on, could have also been beaten by some 30 year old discounted group at Walmarts. If they did this all the time, maybe next time Barney singing Christmas music will beat some one out. The point is they are priced differently and delivered differently etc. The Eagles, while a fantastic group, had a choice and decided who would be selling their music. Whining about it at this point makes them look unprofessional.
