All This Work For Widgets?
Today’s Exercise in Theme Changes was caused mostly by me forgetting that I had WP-Cache turned on, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to mess with the theme every now and again. Meanwhile, I wanted a theme that was friendly to WordPress Widgets. I checked out the place I had gotten my theme and it turns out they updated the theme to support widgets. Cool, so I tried it.
It was a little more complicated than I thought as I needed to suddenly “widgetize” all the stuff I had hacked into the template. It meant learning about the widgets I should be using. I also had to hack-in places to put Google ads and the like. Fun with CSS. At the end of the day, it took longer than it should have, but I think it’s good now. I might do some other tweaks to the CSS to make it look a little nicer, but I’ll save that for another day.
The good news is that it should now be a little easier for me to add things to my sidebar on my blog (or reorder them) without directly hacking HTML. I suppose that makes it worth the trouble. Does that make me a believer in Widgets? Not so sure. Don’t know if I agree with the assertion that 2007 will be the Year of the Widget, but hey.
