Nokia to Lay off 700
Before anyone asks, no, I’m not affected by these layoffs announced by my employer today. But it was cause for a lot of extra confusion in the office today. Some extra meetings that resulted from this announcement, but nothing that had any direct impact on me or my immediate workgroup.
Layoffs are hard, period. However, without getting into specifics, I can say that I believe Nokia does their layoffs in a fairly humane manner. As the linked article alludes to, impacted individuals are given an opportunity to look for other positions within the company. I have seen a number of people get laid off over the years and either find another opportunity within Nokia right away, or even leave and come back several months later.
