Why Exclude Customers?
I’ve always disliked sites that rely on Internet Explorer exclusively. Finally, someone has written a succinct, well-reasoned article on why this is a bad idea. Jim Raposa writes in eWeek:
What I inevitably hear in response or in defense is something like, “Well, 90 percent of people use Internet Explorer, so it’s no big deal.”
I guess that depends on how you define “big deal.”
Let’s say your Web site gets a million visitors. By supporting only IE, you’re knowingly blocking 100,000 potential customers from your site. Why doesn’t that sound like good business to me?
[…]I can’t believe I even have to say this, but businesses should be careful about decisions that can cost them customers and sales.
Jim, what can I say, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The complete article is worth a read.
