Have I Exorcised the 500 Server Errors on Posting?

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what the hell is causing these 500 Server Errors when I try and post a blog entry. The errors don’t come right away, but after many seconds of “chugging away.” Makes me think that I’m running into a PHP timeout for some reason. Unfortunately, 1&1 doesn’t give me direct access to the error logs so I can’t see what’s really going on.

On a lark, I was researching what version of PHP 1&1 uses on their servers. Looks like it’s PHP4 instead of PHP5. It is possible to use PHP5, but you have to add something to your .htaccess file. Okay, tried that. After troubleshooting the script that I was using to log errors, it looks like that did the trick and I’m happily posting articles quicker and without the 500 Server Errors. Yay for progress!
