Blue on the Outside, Orange on the Inside
Blue refers to existing AT&T Wireless customers now part of Cingular. Orange refers to Cingular, pre-merger.
As you can see from this photo I took on my 6820 from the Kitsap Mall, my local AT&T Wireless, er, Cingular store hasn’t completely undergone it’s transformation yet. The sign on the outside says AT&T Wireless, everything inside is Cingular.
On a related thread, a couple of days ago, I called up AT&T Wireless Custoemr Care and asked to be switched from my $59.99 900 minute plan (with unlimited 7pm n/w and mobile-to-mobile) to the $39.99 1000 minute plan with addons for some n/w and mobile-to-mobile (not unlimited). I did this a few days prior to the start of my next billing cycle. On Saturday, the last day of my billing cycle, I called back to Customer Care and said, no, please don’t change my rate plan, switch it back to what it was before. I didn’t ask for any special deals or anything, I just ask for what I had before I started calling Customer Service to muck with things.
When I went to check my minutes in Online Customer Service on Sunday night, I was more than a little surprised when I saw the following:
VOICE NIGHTS & WEEKENDS NIGHTS & WEEKENDS Unlimited 4 Unlimited
VOICE 200 ADDL ANYTIME MINS FOR LIFE 1YR 200 ADD’L ANYTME MIN 200 0 200
VOICE 400 ADDITIONAL ANYTIME MINUTES 400 ADD’L ANYTME MIN 400 0 400
VOICE 50 ADDITIONAL MINUTES 50 ADD’L ANYTIME MIN 50 0 50
VOICE UNLIMITED MOBILE TO MOBILE UNLIM MOBL TO MOBL Unlimited 0 Unlimited
VOICE GSM AMERICA NATIONAL $39.99 INCLUDED MINUTES 400 0 400
If I understand this right, I now have 1050 anytime minutes (what’s with the 200 addl minutes for life 1yr? Sounds like a contradiction to me…), unlimited 9pm weekend mintues, and unlimited mobile-to-mobile for $39.99. This basically means I now have 150 more anytime mintues for $20/mo less and the loss of 7pm n/w minutes, which considering I make almost no calls during that time, is not anywhere near a showstopper for me.
Upon advice from others, I am not going to call in and ask about it, but I will wait for my next bill to verify this is correct. If this is truly my rate plan now, there are going to have to be some serious enticements to get me to change over to a proper Cingular Orange plan. Meanwhile, I’ll stick with this plan until I outgrow it.
