The long-term plan for phoneboy.com
Over the years, phoneboy.com became the foremost destination for Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 information. I consequently became somewhat of an authority on the product and even a small amount of celebrity. And while I may still be somewhat of a celebrity, I am definitely not the expert on the product any longer. In fact, my day job has me pretty far removed from anything having to do with Check Point and has been for a while now. The Check Point products are evolving at such a rapid pace with so many features that I have no idea how anyone can possibly keep up with it all.
Despite being predominately Check Point, phoneboy.com has always been about, well, me and what I’m currently doing. Shameless self-promotion as I used to frequently say. And for a number of years, Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 was what I was doing. Not any more. It’s not as if I don’t want to “forget” everything I did with Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1, I just want to put it aside and move forward with my life. To reach that goal, I ultimately have to let go of many years of blood, sweat and tears.
Do not despair, however, as I am working to give the content a warm, caring, loving home. I’ve left the garden that was once on phoneboy.com a bit of a mess and a new caretaker will have to pull some weeds, plant some new seeds, water the plants, and give the plants some plant food. The whole process will take some time to complete. Based on my initial conversations about what’s going to happen, I believe the Check Point community will like what they will see.
In the end, phoneboy.com will become more about “the person who has the handle PhoneBoy” rather than “a resource for Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 information.” The Check Point community will still have their resource and it will be in better hands. I will get credit for the work I have done, and I can move on with my life. Everyone wins.
