The Price Of Tea in Canada

Apparently, some customers of Tim Hortons, a coffee chain in Canada and the Eastern US, are upset because they have raised the price of an extra-large Steeped Tea (basically hot water with tea leaves in it) from $0.98 to $1.40. They are so upset they have even put together a petition to tell Tim Hortons to bring the price back down.

Of all the things to petition on, you pick this? While I agree it’s just more water and tea leaves, let’s face it: the cost of doing business goes up. For Tim Hortons or any other company to continue to exist, they have to make money. And everyone knows you’re not just paying for the cost of goods, you’re paying for the service that goes with it and for the overhead that is needed to provide that service.

If you’re so damn concerned about paying an extra $0.40 for a cup of tea, here’s a novel concept. Go down to the store, buy some tea, and steep it yourself at home. You can get the exact kind of tea you want for a fraction of the cost you’d pay at Tim Hortons. If you’re not willing to do that or shop at a different chain. suck it up and move on.
