FireWall-1 FAQ: Interface Names on Windows

I am making this information available again AS IS. Given how old this information is, it is likely wildly inaccurate. I have no plans to update this information.
If you're still running versions of Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 where this information is still relevant to you, do yourself a favor and upgrade to a more recent release. If you happen to be running a current release and the information is useful, it's by happenstance :)
An “SNMP Get” may return way more information than is needed on Windows machines. Your interface names should only contain alpha-numeric characters. On Windows, you should only have the first word of the name in there (e.g. CpqNF31) as returned by ipconfig /all.
On Windows 2000, most of the default interface names have spaces, which FireWall-1 does not like. Fortunately, you can rename them in Windows 2000. Go to Start-> Settings-> “Network And Dial-up Connections”-> Your interface, right-click on the interface, and rename it to something without spaces. Then you can use that name.
