RadioFrame and Nokia Siemens Networks Cooperate on 3G Femtocell Deployments

Filed under: mobile network operators, voip - 22 Dec 2007 0:01

RadioFrameI have to say, I really like the idea of Femtocells. It remains to be seen how well they actually work in the real world, but it sounds like a sexy technology–a lot sexier than UMA.

Meanwhile, the folks at RadioFrame Networks have signed a pact with Nokia Siemens Networks to provide Femtocell gear that conforms to NSN’s open architecture. From reading the press release, it’s not clear when these products will be deployed into real customer homes. That’s what I am interested in.

One thing I will say for UMA: T-Mobile’s @Home service in the USA is here today and people say it works. This Femtocell stuff, while ultimately cooler, is still vapoware.
