I have three rules for sending successful email, where success means “you get the response you’re looking for”:
- No more than three short sentences, maybe four, with attention to formatting and readability.
- Make it clear what action is required, but be realistic with the time commitment you’re asking for.
- Help the other person understand why they should help.
