PhoneBoy Speaks Ep 360: The Shell Game

Companies that operate regulated telecommunications infrastructure like AT&T are playing a sort of shell game: they’re basically replacing regulated infrastructure with unregulated, shutting out competitors in multiple markets. Here’s an aooount of how it’s happening in Michigan, which isn’t all that different from how it’s playing out elsewhere.

Think you’re safe by going with a wireless company? Think again as the Special Access lines some of these company’s use are part of this “shell game” and, of course, the incumbents are trying to raise prices. The FCC seems wise to this game, but it seems to only be buying time and not solving the real issues.
