PhoneBoy Speaks Ep 816: The Dead iPhone Battery Reboot Loop Fix

When you run your iPhone battery down past a certain point, it can get into a loop where the phone needs to be charged, so you plug it in. Then it boots all the way up and immediately shuts down because it doesn’t have enough power. Here’s how to get out of that loop:

  1. Plug the iPhone into a computer with iTunes.
  2. Put the iPhone into DFU mode (black screen) by:
    • Holding down the power button for 4 seconds.
    • While still holding down the power button, hold down the home button for 10 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Wait 15 seconds
    • Release the home button
  3. iTunes will show the phone being in recovery mode. Do not restore the phone, but leave the phone to charge for 30 minutes. The screen will remain black during this time but the phone will charge.
  4. Exit from DFU mode by:
    • Pressing the home + power button for 15 seconds
    • Releasing both buttons
    • Pressing the home button for 3 seconds

At this point the phone will boot normally with enough charge to stay powered on after booting. Keep the phone plugged in until it is fully charged.
